Easton, a small town on the Eastern Shore, is located in Talbot County, 60 miles southeast of Baltimore, Maryland. The town encompasses a wealth of creative individuals, and it is the home to many music and art venues, showcasing a variety of performers. Easton is very fortunate to have so many opportunities available for those interested in the creative arts, but unfortunately, Easton is missing one thing - - a children’s theatre. Currently, each of the local middle and high schools produce one musical annually. There is no opportunity here on the Eastern Shore for children to hone their musical theatre craft year-round. This is why Chesapeake Children’s Theatre & Performing Arts Center was born. Kimberly Stevens, Lori Underwood, and Paula Snead recognize the need for this opportunity for our youth in Easton, Talbot County and Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Chesapeake Children’s Theatre & Performing Arts Center will fill the void, offering year round productions specifically for these children ages 4-18.
The art of theatre provides a multitude of benefits for our young actors. Children will improve literacy skills (reading, writing, speaking), build public speaking skills, and gain greater self-confidence. The Children’s Theatre will allow children to achieve social growth through peer interaction. The theatre atmosphere will allow children to think outside the box and solve creative problems. Not only do the performers benefit through their experience, but the audience members will benefit greatly as well.
We ask your help in making this much-needed children’s theatre become a live opportunity for our youth in the community. Chesapeake Children’s Theatre & Performing Arts Center will offer our “Chester” Scholarship to one student (per season) who excels or is trying to excel in the creative arts. Chesapeake Children’s Theatre & Performing Arts Center will also offer an Empty Seat Fund Program. The Empty Seat Fund Program will allow disadvantaged children throughout the Eastern Shore to attend our performances at no cost. We will be working with local community organizations in an effort to keep the arts available to everyone. We believe the arts have tremendous power to nourish, influence and encourage.
The mission of Chesapeake Children’s Theatre & Performing Arts Center is to develop each student’s talents, creativity, individuality, and artistic expression through the craft of musical theatre.
Chesapeake Children’s Theatre & Performing Arts Center is dedicated to providing training and diverse performance opportunities in the theatrical arts for youth ages 4-18, in addition to producing quality live theatrical performances for family audiences.
